spirit vs. spirit

the spirit (full color):who will save Will Eisner's The Spirit from Frank Miller's The Spirit???

in contrast to my little cartoon above i'm actually trying to reserve judgment on this film until i see it for myself. i'm just kinda glad the movie poster no longer sports will eisner's name on it as this is in no way will eisner's the spirit as much as it is just frank miller's creation...or abomination(!!!) depending on your point of view. but grumpy ol' frank's just like any other movie director in the business because at the end of the day he's gonna shoot whatever the fuck he wants! for better or for worse! let's just hope it's for the better...

although all those ridiculous sam jackson costume changes doesn't leave one with much hope! in the short trailer i saw, sam's dressed up as a black nazi, a gay samurai and some kind of russian pimp! i've seen less costume changes at a cher concert!

um...not that i've ever been to a cher concert or anything...

the spirit (black and gray):
the spirit (sepia tone):
the spirit (rough pencils):

I think the sepia and the color one are my faves.
Not to hate on the b&w, I'm just finding myself pulled to those two more.

you have to been to a Cher concert! And you liked it!!

That aside....I really like this! I was pleasently surprised to come by the 'ol blog and see another new post! Full color! And funny, ta boot! (as is the usual)...I really liked the first teaser trailer for The Spirit...just the mood, the effects (even if it did look like Sin City) but wasn't as crazy about the newest teaser trailer...and I HATE the mask they gave him! The eye holes are way too wide showing too much of his face - they're supposed to come to the edge of his eyes! And too much emphasis, at least in this trailer on the women around him, making him out to be some sort of super stud, rather than focusing more on the mystery and crime angle.....as you said, I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie...

chris- thanks man! i do prefer the sepia over the black and gray one as well but the color one's my fave.

justin-thanks justin. i know sarcasm doesn't read well over the internet so let me say that I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A CHER CONCERT!!!(recently.)

every director, comic book artist and artist in general has a style they primarily work in so "the sin city" look and mood (dames, chucks, ridiculous villains all in heavy contrast b/w, etc.) isn't that unexpected but we'll see how well it translates to another world outside of sin city.

frank seems hellbent on producing a film as close to the look and feel of one of his comic books as possible. although images like DD running across tightropes look cool in the comics, on film it seems to be a different story. things get sorta lost in translation. but i'll still see it. right now i feel just sort of indifferent towards the film.

but i did FINAAAALLLY see dark knight recently and....

oh yeah! that movie is off the muthafuckin chain!!

Love this Spirit, very funny.

That movie is gonna be a train wreck, i thought the whole idea of the Octopus was that ya never saw him...now we see him and he's stolen the costumes from a high school production of Cabaret. Ugh, Frank Miller should stick to comics, doesn't anybody remember he wrote Robocop 2.

Oh, that batmite is super sweet too!
